18-seater bus plunges into Lagos lagoon, passengers missing
An LT 18-seater bus has flung into the Lagos lagoon from the top of Third Mainland Bridge on Wednesday morning.
Rescuers are currently combing the murky waters looking for the bodies of two missing passengers.
The accident happened on the recently repaired bridge around the Adeniji Adele, end of the bridge inward Lagos Island.
It was gathered that the driver of the bus was on high speed when it eventually swerved off the road and crashed into the bridge railings.
Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the South West region, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the incident.
Farinloye, in a WhatsApp message said the fatal crash involved a LT 18-seater bus with registration number FKJ 872 YA.
“The bus swerved uncontrollably, off the road and eventually hit the bridge rails and caused the two passengers to be flung off into the lagoon.”
“The victims, an adult male and female are being search for by the Marine Police. The crash vehicle has been towed to Adeniji Adele police station,” he said.
