Ten 10 key reasons Mauricio Pochettino shouldn’t be sacked as Chelsea manager

Chelsea fans have chanted Jose Mourinho’s name at times this season, amid growing frustration with Mauricio Pochettino.

Mauricio Pochettino hasn’t really impressed Chelsea fans in his first year at the club, and some Blues fans want him out.

But, should Mauricio Pochettino really be sacked after one season? We don’t think so.

See reasons below

Stability and Continuity: Constant managerial changes can disrupt team cohesion and progress. By retaining Mauricio Pochettino, the club will maintain stability and provide a consistent direction for the team to follow.

Just last season alone, Chelsea had three different managers – which isn’t good for the club if they want to find consistency.

Proven Track Record: Pochettino has a strong track record of success, particularly during his tenure at Tottenham Hotspur. He led the team to multiple top-four finishes in the Premier League and guided them to the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2019. This experience demonstrates his capability to achieve success at the highest level. It only takes time.

Tactical Acumen: Pochettino is renowned for his tactical intelligence and adaptability. He has a knack for devising strategies that maximise the strengths of his players while exploiting the weaknesses of the opposition. His ability to adjust tactics during matches has often proved crucial in securing positive results. He has shown this at times Chelsea, and we must understand that Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Development of Youth Talent: One of Pochettino’s biggest strengths is his commitment to developing young talent. Throughout his career, he has shown a willingness to give opportunities to emerging players and has played a pivotal role in the development of stars such as Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Harry Winks. This focus on youth development bodes well for the long-term sustainability of the club.

The Chelsea team is currently filled with very young players from the academy and also signed from outside. No better manager to unearth their potentials than Mauricio Pochettino.

Long-Term Vision: Sacking Pochettino would disrupt any long-term plans or projects he has initiated within the club. Continuity in leadership allows for the implementation and refinement of strategies over time, ultimately leading to sustained success.

Even the likes of Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp didn’t find instant success at Manchester City and Liverpool. The second season will be a better judge of Pochettino’s stay at Chelsea.

Style of Play: Pochettino’s teams are renowned for their attractive, high-pressing style of football. His emphasis on proactive, attacking football not only produces entertaining performances for the fans but also tends to yield positive results on the pitch.

Even against the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool and also Arsenal, it would be said that none of those teams outplayed Chelsea. It’s a positive sign for the future.

Resilience: Mauricio Pochettino has demonstrated resilience in the face of adversity throughout his managerial career. He has the ability to rally his team during difficult periods and instill a sense of determination and belief that can see them through challenging situations.

Cultural Understanding: Cultural understanding is built over time at a club. We’ve seen the likes of Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp benefit massively from this.

The familiarity with the inner workings of the organisation can be invaluable in building a cohesive team environment and fostering a sense of unity among players and staff. In essence, give Pochettino time.

Potential for Improvement: Despite any current struggles, Pochettino has the potential to learn from his experiences and evolve as a manager. His willingness to adapt and grow, coupled with his proven track record of success, suggests that he is capable of leading the club to greater achievements in the future.

Cup Success: Truth be told – Chelsea’s league standing isn’t good enough. However, Chelsea’s progression in the cups is a sign that things can get better with a bit more stability.

Chelsea reached the final of the Carabao Cup and are currently through to the semi-final of the FA Cup. This is progress in itself, and shouldn’t be taken for granted.

Yes, Chelsea is far from where they want to be, but the Blues have definitely improved from last season.
