JUST IN; Tragedy as Generator fume kills seven people
Seven people tragically lost their lives after inhaling generator fumes in a music studio on Transformer Road in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The victims were working in the studio, owned by Akpos Barakubo, and had left the generator running due to a power outage. They fell asleep and were overcome by the fumes.
Residents reported that the crew had worked late into the night and used the generator to compensate for the poor power supply.
According to Daily Trust, Six bodies were found the next morning, and one person, initially unconscious and rushed to the hospital, later died.
Most of the victims were university students from Delta State who used music recording to support their education. Security personnel have cordoned off the area, and the bodies have been taken to a mortuary.
Local resident Damion Asamonye criticized the state and federal governments and the power distribution company for the inadequate power supply that necessitated the use of a generator.
He expressed frustration over the preventable loss of lives due to government failures. Mrs. Joy Reuben, another resident, called for improved power supply to prevent such tragedies.
The Bayelsa State police command is yet to give an official statement on the incident.
