Ekong, Omeruo Missing in Super Eagles Squad for World Cup Qualifiers, Osho, Tanimu Listed

In a surprise move, Super Eagles coach Finidi George has left out experienced defenders William Troost-Ekong and Kenneth Omeruo from the squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.

According to OwnGoalNigeria, both players were excluded due to fitness concerns, as they are still recovering from injuries. Ekong, who was included in the provisional list, has been ruled out of the team, while Omeruo still has a slim chance of making the final cut.

However, Luton Town defender Gabriel Osho, who missed the friendly games against Ghana and Mali due to injury, has been given another chance to make his senior debut for Nigeria. Benjamin Tanimu, who made his debut in the friendly games, has also been listed in the squad.

Other defenders in the squad include Semi Ajayi of West Brom and Calvin Bassey of Fulham. The inclusion of these players is seen as a strategic move by Coach Finidi George to bring in fresh talent and perspectives to the team.

The full squad is expected to be made public after recent alterations due to injury to some players in the final list of 25 players for the games against South Africa and Benin Republic.
