The governor hosted the children following the recovery of the last of the three siblings; the other two had been rescued earlier. All three siblings were rescued from locations outside the state.
A reverend sister and four others were arrested as police rescued the three children abducted by a bike rider in Abia.
Police operatives in Abia State rescued the children, who were taken by a bike rider in Amaoba Ime Oboro Community in Ikwuano LGA. They were found in Anambra and Delta States.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Maureen Chinaka, stated on Saturday, June 15, that the rescue mission led to the arrest of five suspects, including a Reverend Sister.
“On May 10, 2024, the Abia State Police Command received a report that three male children, namely: Gideon Osinachi (eight years old), Obioma Divine Osinachi (six years old), and Israel Osinachi (four years old), were abducted by an unknown cyclist from Amoba Okoro village in Ikwuanno LGA of Abia State. The cyclist was hired by their grandmother to take them home after visiting her.
Obioma was rescued on May 21 at Ekwulobia in Anambra State, Gideon on May 23 at Nkpor in Anambra State, and Israel on June 13 in Warri, Delta State. We are pleased to announce that all three children have been reunited with their family,” the statement reads.
The statement added that during the investigation and rescue efforts from May 10 to June 13, four female suspects and one male suspect were arrested in connection with the crime.
“The suspects were arrested in Amawbia and Nkpor in Anambra State, as well as Warri in Delta State. They include Reverend Sister Pauline Alozie, Chizoba DJ, Glory Umuna, Mrs. Georgina Nonye Okoye, and Philip Ibe. They are in custody and will be charged in court very soon,” it added.
