Former Aviation Minister Osita Chidoka has responded to comments made by Senator Shehu Sani regarding the participation of the South East region in the ongoing End Bad Governance protest in Nigeria.
Senator Sani, on Thursday, August 1, posted on his X handle, questioning the relative quiet in the South East compared to the unrest seen in other parts of the country, where shops and government buildings have been torched.
Chidoka, addressing these comments, emphasized that the South East has its own unique methods of engaging with national issues and should not be judged solely by the presence or absence of violent protests.
He stated, “The people of the South East have always been active in demanding good governance and accountability through various means, including peaceful protests, advocacy, and dialogue.”
He further highlighted that the South East has a long history of political engagement and that their contributions to national discourse are not limited to visible street protests.
“The assumption that the South East is quiet because they are not torching buildings is a narrow view of political participation,” Chidoka remarked.
“Our people believe in constructive engagement and have always played significant roles in shaping the political landscape of Nigeria.”
Chidoka also pointed out that the End Bad Governance movement is a collective national effort and that different regions may express their frustrations and demands in different ways.
He urged Senator Sani and other commentators to recognize the diversity of protest tactics and the underlying unity of purpose among Nigerians.
