In Nigerian political history, Governor Godwin Obaseki has emerged as a leader who has consistently disregarded the rule of law and the separation of powers. His rise to power wasn’t a result of political skill or public service but rather a stroke of fortune. Unfortunately, his governance has been marked by a blatant abuse of power, reflecting a deep ingratitude for the opportunity he was given.
Obaseki, who ascended to the governorship without political experience, connections, or financial backing, has spent the past seven years leading with a cold disregard for the rule of law and a concerning lack of empathy for the citizens of Edo State. His policies have often been heartless, and his governance characterized by a disturbing indifference to the welfare of the people he was elected to serve.
In contrast, Senator Monday Okpebholo embodies empathy and political maturity. Over the years, he has demonstrated a strong respect for the rule of law and a genuine passion for serving his people.
The upcoming Edo 2024 gubernatorial election presents a crucial opportunity for the people of Edo State to correct the negative trajectory set by Obaseki. His chosen successor, Asue Ighodalo, appears to be cut from the same cloth, already showing signs of continuing Obaseki’s legacy of lawlessness and disregard for the needs of the people.
The people of Edo State must reject this attempt to perpetuate Obaseki’s misguided legacy. It’s time to elect a leader with a proven track record of prioritizing the people and respecting the rule of law. Senator Monday Okpebholo is that leader—a man of integrity, experience, and genuine commitment to the welfare of Edo State. His leadership offers a break from the past and a chance for true progress, with a government that serves the people rather than rules over them.
This September, the choice is clear. Reject the continuation of Obaseki’s lawlessness and vote for Senator Monday Okpebholo—a leader who will restore dignity, accountability, and genuine service to the office of the Chief Executive of Edo State.
