Three individuals accused of Witchcraft allegedly tortured to death

Three individuals have been killed after being accused of witchcraft, the Adamawa State Police Command confirmed.

According to a statement from police spokesperson Suleiman Nguroje, the victims—Lazarus Bashiru, Galion Isa, and Ajasko Yakubu—were reportedly tortured and murdered by Salestina Bala and her accomplices.

The incident was reported to the Tigno Divisional Police Headquarters on September 14, 2024, by Dogara Sabon Reza and Jeri Dogara.

Both the victims and the accused are residents of Lamurde Local Government Area.

The police condemned the extra-judicial killings and have mobilized security forces to apprehend those responsible.

“Preliminary investigations led to the arrest of the suspect. Such violent actions threaten law and order and are entirely unacceptable,” the statement read.

The police issued this clarification following Monday morning’s rumors of communal unrest in Lamurde.

A social media post falsely claimed that violent clashes had resulted in six deaths in the area.

The Adamawa Police Command dismissed this report as fake news and advised the public to be cautious of such misleading information.
