Obiano’s Displeasure with Soludo: Political Battle Lines Drawn

Chief Willie Obiano, the former Governor of Anambra State, is displeased with the current Governor, Professor Charles Soludo. Sources close to the former governor indicate that Obiano feels Soludo has not shown the level of deference he expected.

What hurts Obiano the most is his belief that Soludo has caused division within his family. According to reports, his wife frequently reminds him of how she had advised against supporting Soludo’s candidacy. She blames his decision to back Soludo for the challenges they are now facing. Mrs. Obiano has expressed her frustration, saying that if her husband had supported Chukwuma Umeoji instead, they would have been in a more favourable position.

Mrs. Obiano also criticises Soludo for not naming the newly established airport after her husband. Instead, the governor named the Anambra International Conference Centre after Obiano, which she views as an inadequate gesture of gratitude for helping Soludo secure the governorship.

Obiano at first became suspicious of Soludo’s intentions after the governor claimed to have inherited just ₦100 million from his predecessor. Adding to his grievances, Obiano is disappointed by Soludo’s perceived lack of concern regarding his legal issues with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In response to his discontent, Obiano has instructed his supporters to rally behind Chief Paul Chukwuma of the APC in an effort to unseat Soludo. He is said to view this as his final political battle.

The question on the lips of Anambra people is why Obiano, who benefitted from zoning, would now work against it simply because he wants to get back at Soludo.
