The Federal Government of Nigeria is set to implement a new minimum wage of ₦70,000.
This decision follows a recent Memorandum of Understanding signed between the government and labor unions, solidifying the wage increase.
According to Channels Television, the announcement was made by Eno Olotu, Head of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.
The committee responsible for salary structures, led by Head of Civil Service Didi Walson-Jack, also approved revisions to the salary structures for lecturers, doctors, military personnel, and other civil servants.
Walson-Jack commended the committee members for their diligent efforts, describing the negotiations as among the shortest and most peaceful to date.
The agreement includes consequential adjustments in salaries resulting from the new minimum wage.
Both the government and trade union representatives expressed satisfaction with the outcome, ensuring a commitment to addressing the economic challenges faced by workers.
The signed MOU will be forwarded to the Federal Government for further action, marking a significant step towards enhancing workers’ welfare in Nigeria.
