Some workers have written on how the costs of transportation as well as prices of fuel have drastically affected their salaries, as some also said they are planning to resign due to the unbearable situation.
The workers wrote their experiences on their various X handles while lamenting over the increase in transportation costs as well as astronomical increase in fuel prices, especially petrol.
Petrol prices have gone up in the past few weeks as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) now sells the product for between N870 and N890 while other marketers sell between N950 and N1,200.
However, while writing on the issue on Tuesday, some of the workers said they now spend about 75 per cent of their monthly salaries on transportation and fuel while the remaining is used only for feeding.
In fact, one of them said he had to ask his wife to resign from her teaching job at a private school in Lekki area of the state as they live at the Mainland area. This, he said, was because she could no longer cope with the transportation cost based on her meager salary.
One of them said he spends about N4,000 daily on transportation and this will translate to N80,000 in 20 working days in a month, adding that it has become unbearable for him.
Many of them, who admitted that some companies are closing down due to the situation, suggested that companies that are still in operation should ask their workers to work from home from some days in the week, as this would relieve them of the transportation costs.
