More troubles for ex-Governor Yahaya Bello as EFCC files fresh fraud charges against him

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has filed additional 16 fresh charges of fraud against Yahaya Bello, the immediate former Kogi State Governor.

The charges were submitted to an FCT High Court.

Alongside Bello, the EFCC has named Umar Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalam Hudu as co-defendants in the case.

The charges were filed by EFCC prosecutors Kemi Pinheiro, Rotimi Oyedepo, and a team of seven other lawyers.

This development follows Bello’s absence at a scheduled hearing in the Federal High Court, Abuja, where he is already facing trial for an alleged fraud involving N80.2 billion.

According to Daily Trust, the EFCC’s new charge sheet accuses the former governor of additional fraudulent activities, totaling N110.4 billion. The anti-graft agency claims to have uncovered these fresh allegations during ongoing investigations.

The charge sheet reads in part: “That you, YAHAYA ADOZA BELLO, UMAR SHUAIBU ORICHA and ABDULSALAMI HUDU sometimes in 2016 in Abuja, within the jurisdictions of this Honourable Court agreed amongst yourselves to cause to be done an illegal act to wit: criminal breach of trust in respect of the total sum N110,446,470,089.00 entrusted to you.”
