JUST IN; Defence Minister reveals President Tinubu’s instruction to him to tackle Banditry

Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, revealed that President Bola Tinubu has instructed him to relocate to Sokoto state address the escalating banditry crisis.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Henshaw Ogubike, the ministry’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Matawalle declared that his presence in the affected region signals a significant threat to bandits and their allies.

He emphasised the government’s dedication to eradicating insecurity and urged political leaders to back the president’s efforts in tackling the issue.

He said: “As directed by Mr. President, I am back to Sokoto state to assure the people of this great region of our commitment to achieving all necessary yardsticks in the fight against insecurity.

“We will never leave you alone. I assure you, we will win this war against bandits and those supporting them to unleash terror against our people.

“We must collaborate with all stakeholders in this region to achieve our target. The federal government will continue to boost the morale of our soldiers and security agencies in this fight.

“I am optimistic that our gallant troops will continue to record successes through Operation Fansan Yamma as we intensify our fight against these criminals.”

Matawalle pledged to wage an unwavering fight against bandits and their accomplices, stressing that the Tinubu administration remains committed to safeguarding lives and property as a top priority.
