Cole Palmer has cautioned his Chelsea teammates that they ‘cannot happen’ to put on a show like they did against Burnley on Saturday. After Lorenz Assignon was sent off, the Blues had a numerical advantage for more than half of the match, but they still drew 2-2 at home against the relegation-threatened team.

It was still insufficient to stop a disastrous outcome that brought Mauricio Pochettino’s miserable Chelsea tenure to an all-time low. Twice, led by Dara O’Shea and Josh Cullen, Burnley rallied from behind with ten men to steal a crucial point in their battle against relegation.

Palmer made it abundantly evident to his underperforming teammates that those kinds of performances were simply not sustainable after the final whistle.

“It’s awful, it’s not possible,” the former Manchester City player remarked. Particularly when they are reduced to ten men. We became too cozy. The same old story: each week, we commit suicide. As players, we have to do better.

It’s, I believe, our constant presence on the field and refusal to give up, as we did today. If we want to accomplish something, we really need to find some consistency.

Despite his youth, Palmer has been one of Chelsea’s few shining stars this season, leading the Londoners in goals and assists. The attacking midfielder is among the most productive players in the Premier League with 21 goal contributions in 24 appearances.

Despite this, Chelsea is still in the bottom half of the table, and supporters are putting more and more pressure on Pochettino after they erupted in boos at Stamford Bridge when the game against Burnley ended.

The under-fire Argentine said, “I’m sorry, but I am not happy with the performance when we don’t have the ball.” “We must be resilient in the face of a physically strong team. We gave them too much freedom to run. Since the game was a must-win, it’s hard to accept losing.

“We missed each other’s communication, our energy, and our ability to handle the situation. We were not the same today. We know exactly where we need to make improvements. That is the reality and the fact.”
