PIDOMNigeria: Trial Delayed Due To Judge’s Absence – Green White Green

The trial of Isaac Bristol, known on social media as “PIDOMNigeria,” has been postponed because Justice Emeka Nwite was not present at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Justice Nwite, who recently returned from the court’s annual vacation held from July 23 to September 13, is currently on a two-week leave.

Originally set for November 5, the trial has been rescheduled to January 22, 2025. On September 27, Justice Nwite had granted Bristol bail of ₦5 million, requiring him to provide a surety of the same amount. This decision followed a motion presented by Deji Adeyanju, who is leading Bristol’s legal team.

In his ruling, Justice Nwite emphasized that bail is a constitutional right. He specified that the surety must be a reputable citizen, verified by the court through tax clearance and address confirmation. Bristol was also ordered to surrender his international passport as part of the bail conditions.

Bristol’s legal issues began on August 5 when police arrested him at a hotel in Rivers State. According to police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi, his arrest was based on offenses that allegedly threatened government security. He was arraigned on September 3 on nine charges filed by Simon Lough, SAN, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police.

The charges include unauthorized handling of government documents, destruction of evidence, and violations related to cybercrime and money laundering. The prosecution claims that Bristol shared documents alleging that President Bola Tinubu transferred ₦24.1 billion to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) through Vice President Kashim Shettima’s office, later stating that the amount was increased to ₦90 billion. Bristol, however, denies all the accusations against him.
