Man sets family members, house, himself on fire after argument with Wife
In a sad incident that unfolded in the early hours of Sunday, a man in his early thirties, identified as Mr. Onyiuke Nwedeogu, is alleged to have set himself and his family home ablaze following a minor dispute with his wife.
The tragic event took place in Ndiechi Igbeagu, located within the Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
According to eyewitness accounts, the conflict began on Sunday morning when Onyiuke engaged in a heated argument with his wife, Mrs. Felicia Nwedeogu, which escalated to the point where he physically assaulted her.
In the aftermath of the altercation, Onyiuke gathered his belongings and moved them to the family’s provision shop.
He then sought mediation from his parents, who reside a short distance away, but was dissatisfied with their efforts to resolve the issue.
Returning to his residence, Onyiuke forcibly removed the window protector and set the house on fire using motor spirit, despite being aware that his wife and their three daughters were asleep inside.
Another source detailed that after the initial altercation, Onyiuke had taken his belongings to the provision store, locked it, and left, only to return later that night with a gallon of motor spirit to ignite the fire.
Miraculously, Mrs. Felicia Nwedeogu and her three children were rescued through the same window that Onyiuke had earlier accessed. However, the man himself suffered severe injuries from the fire.
He was driven to the Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital (AE-FETHA) by an individual named Elijah, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
