Pandemonium as Thugs wearing MC Oluomo’s vest armed with cutlass invade Abuja event
Violence erupted at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Secretariat in Utako, Abuja, on Thursday as thugs disrupted the inauguration of the Bus Conductors Association of Nigeria (BCAN), causing injuries to several attendees and extensive damage to property.
The attackers, allegedly aligned with Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo, descended on the venue shortly after the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, had left. The ceremony was forcibly halted amidst the chaos.
Eyewitnesses described how the thugs, led by one Segun Aluwaye—who claimed to be the chairman of Berger Park—arrived armed with machetes, knives, bottles, and sticks. Wearing caps bearing MC Oluomo’s image, the attackers forced their way into the hall, chasing off attendees, including government officials, security personnel, and BCAN members.
BCAN Chairman, Comrade Prince Israel Ade Adeshola, condemned the attack, stating, “They were wearing face caps with Oluomo’s image, and they destroyed several items.
The miscreants stormed the venue with dangerous weapons, chasing dignitaries and guests out while injuring many of our members.”
The attackers caused injuries to attendees, including officers from the police, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). Valuable equipment, including cameras, chairs, tables, and fans, were also damaged.
The inauguration event, aimed at addressing the rise of “one chance” crimes in the Federal Capital Territory and establishing a reliable registry of bus conductors, was left in disarray.
BCAN has condemned the incident, calling it a setback to their mission.
As of now, no arrests have been made, though police vehicles were stationed outside the NUJ Secretariat to prevent further escalation.
BCAN has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and relevant security agencies to take immediate action and hold MC Oluomo and his associates accountable for the violence.
