It’s good political strategy for APC members to destabilize PDP – Party chieftain
A prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Cletus Obun, has asserted that one of his party’s strategic roles is to weaken the opposition, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Obun, who also served as the former chairman of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) in Cross River State, argued that destabilizing rival parties can be an effective and legitimate political tactic.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Obun emphasised that political maneuvering to disrupt the opposition is fair game, as long as it remains within non-violent bounds.
His remarks come in the wake of comments by PDP stalwart Segun Sowunmi, who had recently criticized President Bola Tinubu’s decision to appoint Nyesom Wike as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Sowunmi claimed that this appointment, made in August of the previous year, had deepened divisions within the PDP.
Obun’s statement underlined the contentious nature of political rivalry, suggesting that such maneuvers, when executed strategically, are a part of the game.
He said: “If PDP comes out to say so, it’s the worst political confession to be ever made. If you’re saying that we’re able to infiltrate PDP and destabilize them, it’s part of our duty to so, just as it is their work to also ensure that the APC is destabilized; so long as it’s not disruptive to become violent. It’s a good political weapon to use.”
