Court grants N1 million bail as defendant allegedly r*p*d 19-year-old Lady

A 44-year-old man, Kazeem Bankole, on Monday appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly raping a 19-year-old girl.

The defendant, whose house address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of rape and theft.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Aug.22, at about 4.00.p.m, at Posukoh Quarters, Badagry, Lagos.

Ekpo alleged that the defendant unlawfully had sexual intercourse with the complainant, a 19-year-old girl, without her consent.

He said that the defendant also stole one Vivo Android phone valued at N35,000, belonging to the complainant.

Ekpo said that the offences contravened Sections 260 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years jail term for stealing, while Section 411 provides two years imprisonment for anyone convicted of the offence of conspiracy.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr A. J. Aina, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

Aina ordered that one of the sureties should be a Director in the Lagos State civil service, who should make a cash deposit of N25,000 to the account of the Registrar of the Court.

He adjourned the case until Dec. 14 for mention. (NAN)
