These bodies are said to be the bodies of offenders – people who refused to present themselves to the shrine when summoned and people who failed to pay those they owe.
When an offender of the shrine diess, his or her body becomes the property of the shrine.
If by chance thier family goes ahead to bury them, the Okija diety would descend its wrath on the family causing them to experience badd things after the other.
Though, recently there have been unverified claims by some individuals that the bodies littered in the shrine were not kiled by any deity or spirit, rather they were kiled by the common people to instill fear and horror in the minds of people.
