Russia evacuates over 4,000 people after dam burst
Russia has conducted a mass evacuation of more than 4,000 individuals in the Orenburg region near the Kazakhstan border due to flooding caused by a dam burst.
Emergency services have been tirelessly working since the dam burst in the city of Orsk, grappling with the aftermath of torrential rains.
The flooding has impacted over 2,500 homes, and authorities have evacuated 4,208 people, including 1,019 children, as a precautionary measure.
A criminal case has been opened in Russia, citing negligence and violation of construction safety rules regarding the dam, which was constructed in 2014.
The situation remains dire, with authorities warning of dangerous water levels in the Ural river, particularly in the main city of Orenburg.

Governor Denis Pasler has stated that the flood has reached its peak, highlighting the severity of the situation, especially in Orsk.
“Rescue operations are ongoing, with images showing rescue workers navigating through flooded villages using boats and hovercrafts”.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev described the floods as one of the worst natural disasters in Kazakhstan in 80 years, emphasizing the need for swift assistance to those affected.
