Abia Government Cracks Down on Street Begging in Aba

The Abia State Government, through the efforts of the Mayor of Aba South, Chief Hon. Uche Wogu, has launched a major crackdown on street begging in the city. Early Yesterday, several beggars and destitute individuals were apprehended in a coordinated operation around CKC, Bata, and Brass Junction, with the assistance of Abia State Harmonized Task Force.

Authorities reported that children found during the operation were transferred to motherless babies’ homes for care, while the adults were handed over to law enforcement agencies. Some of the arrested people were discovered with stolen phones, Indian hemp, and other illicit items.

The operation is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to address street begging and related criminal activities in Aba.
