Anambra Declares War on Shady Structures: “Operation Show Your Building Permit” Unleashed!

In a bold move to bring order to the chaotic building sector, the Anambra State Government has kicked off “Operation Show Your Building Permit,” a campaign targeting illegal structures that have been sprouting like weeds across the state.

On Thursday, the Development Control Enforcement team, led by Barr. Chike Maduekwe, Chairman of the Anambra State Physical Planning Board, hit the streets, starting with a demolition spree in Woliwo Fegge, Onitsha South Council Area. Illegal perimeter fences and shanties didn’t stand a chance as the team bulldozed their way through.

Barr. Maduekwe made it clear that this operation isn’t just for show—it’s about enforcing building codes and regulations that many builders have been ignoring, treating the government as if it’s just another red tape to cut through.

While some of these violations stem from land disputes or shoddy paperwork, the Chairman expressed frustration over the financial toll this crackdown is taking on the government. He warned that offenders won’t just lose their illegal structures; they could also face arrest and prosecution.

Maduekwe emphasized the need for a safe building environment, aligning with the governor’s vision of a well-organized society. He also recounted the challenges the enforcement team faced during previous attempts, including resistance from thugs and allegedly bribed policemen.

With “Operation Show Your Building Permit” now in full swing, the government has halted all building projects, demanding that builders produce their permits for validation. This operation will soon roll out across other parts of the state, signaling a new dawn for building regulations in Anambra.
