APGA NATIONAL CHAIRMAN JOINS GOVERNOR SOLUDO TO LAUNCH DISTRIBUTION OF ONE MILLION SEEDLINGS IN ANAMBRA STATE

Onitsha, Anambra – July 20, 2024 – In a significant stride towards agricultural enhancement and sustainability, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa, today joined the Governor of Anambra State and National Leader of APGA, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo CFR, at Achebe Stadium, Fegge, Onitsha, to officially launch the distribution of over one million cash crop seedlings across the state.

This ambitious initiative involves the allocation of seven hundred thousand palm seedlings, two hundred thousand ukwa seedlings, fifty thousand bitter kola seedlings, and forty thousand pawpaw seedlings. These seedlings are being distributed through the state’s 326 political wards utilizing the innovative Umunna system.

In his remarks, the APGA National Chairman praised Governor Soludo for spearheading this transformative effort, describing the initiative as a “green revolution” and a historic first for Anambra State, closely aligning with APGA’s manifesto, termed the Agricultural Revolution. Ezeokenwa highlighted that APGA’s commitment to sustainable agriculture distinguishes it from other political parties, ensuring long-term benefits for the people and future generations. He drew parallels between Governor Soludo’s visionary policies and the transformative economic strategies of global leaders such as Singapore’s Lee Kuan Yew and Malaysia’s Mahathir Mohamad.

Governor Soludo, during his address, reiterated the state’s commitment to an ongoing program targeting the planting of 10 million seedlings in Anambra over the coming years, encompassing palm oil, coconut oil, and other economic trees. He remarked, “In the medium term, these trees will become the next oil.” The Governor announced plans for the distribution of an additional one million seedlings each year, emphasizing the importance of integrating tree planting into the culture of Anambra to earn carbon credits. He encouraged educational institutions to embrace green initiatives, stating, “Plant a tree; it will significantly benefit our environment and ecology.”

The event witnessed the presence of distinguished government officials, including the Deputy Governor, His Excellency Onyekachukwu Ibezim, the representative of the Minister of Agriculture, Senator Mohammad Abubakar, Anambra Commissioner for Agriculture Dr. Foster Ihejiofor, members of the State Executive Council, members of the State House of Assembly, TC Chairmen of Onitsha North and South, Traditional Rulers, APGA supporters, and a large gathering of Ndi Anambra.

This landmark initiative signifies a monumental move toward sustainable agricultural practices in Anambra State, reaffirming APGA’s commitment to nurturing a greener and more prosperous future for all.
