Armed Bandits removing Monarchs, installing new ones in my Area — LG Chairman cries for help

The Chairman of Isa Local Government Area in Sokoto State, Alhaji Sharifu Kamarawa, informed the Minister of State for Defence, Alhaji Bello Matawalle, on Thursday that several communities within the council remain under the control of bandits.

During a meeting at the local government secretariat, Kamarawa reported that the bandits, led by Kachalla Bello Turji, have been appointing and deposing village heads in the affected areas.

He appealed saying: “Here in Isa town, we are living peacefully. The problem is in the eastern part of Isa. There are places that are still under the control of bandits. They appoint and depose village heads there.

“We are appealing for a military camp in Kagara to take care of those areas. We used to have a camp there before it was relocated. Then there was a relative peace in those places. So we want the camp back.”

The chairman acknowledged that following the death of Halilu Sububu, the bandit leader killed about a month ago, there has been a notable decrease in attacks on their communities. He mentioned that residents can now travel on certain roads that were previously abandoned due to insecurity.

In response, the minister stated that President Bola Tinubu is deeply concerned about the security situation in the North. This concern led to the appointment of northern ministers for Defence and heads of security agencies.

“The President has instructed me to ensure that military presence is strengthened in all areas of concern within the state. We will be establishing a military base at Gundumi, which will patrol the Gundumi-Marnona road, a route that has been closed for years,” he explained.

Matawalle also assured Isa residents that more security personnel would be deployed to the region.

“Your support is essential, as security is a collective responsibility. We need to stay informed about the movements of the bandits,” he added.
