Avoid taking your bath, don’t wash dishes during heavy rain, (IBEDC) electricity distribution company warns Nigerians
An electric distribution company, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), on Friday, June 14, 2024, warned electricity consumers to always avoid taking their baths, showering or washing dishes whenever there is heavy rainfall.
The distribution company disclosed this on its X handle following the torrential rainfalls in the last couple of weeks and the lightning and thunderstorm that accompanied them.
The IBEDC unfolded a number of safety precautions it said its customers should adhere to whenever there are heavy rainfalls as well as lightning and thunderstorms during the rainfalls.
Among the precautions are that whenever there is a thunderstorm, people are advised to go inside a building or inside a car with a rooftop.
Lightning accompanying rainfall.
It also said people should avoid using mobile phones, watching televisions and stop using other devices that conduct electricity and are connected to electrical outlets, while those devices can also be removed from the outlets.
It advised motorists to always avoid entering running water on the road while driving, adding that they should not drive through flooded roadways.
It added: “Do not drive through flooded roadways. Just six inches of fast-moving water can knock you down and one foot of moving water can sweep your vehicle away.
“Avoid taking baths or showers and do not wash dishes during heavy rainfall that is accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.”
The company therefore urged the people to always stay safe during this rainy season.
