Bobrisky confesses “I’m a man” before receiving 6-month jail term
There was drama in court on Friday when Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, made a surprising admission, acknowledging his male identity before Justice Abimbola Awogboro, who subsequently sentenced him to a six-month prison term.
The renowned cross-dresser, whose gender identity has sparked controversy, has often presented as a woman and claimed to have undergone various surgeries to transition.
However, Bobrisky’s declaration of being a man during the court proceedings added a layer of intrigue to the ongoing legal saga.
Despite his frequent portrayal of feminine personas, Bobrisky occasionally appears in male attire, as evidenced by his attendance at his father’s funeral in Ijebu Igbo last year.
A viral video captured Bobrisky’s discomfort as he attempted to evade the camera, donning a black ensemble and concealing his face with a dark shade and scarf.
Justice Abimbola Awogboro’s inquiry into Bobrisky’s sex prompted a swift response: “I am a man, My Lord.” This admission paved the way for the judge to impose the six-month sentence without the option of a fine, citing the need to deter others from engaging in similar acts of currency abuse and mutilation.
Bobrisky’s conviction on April 5, following a guilty plea to four counts of naira abuse brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), marked a significant legal milestone.
