BREAKING; ASUU directs Lecturers to join NLC’s indefinite strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has instructed its members across the country to join the indefinite industrial action starting today, Monday.

The directive includes a call for branch leaders at various universities to mobilize their members for full participation.

In a letter dated June 2, 2024, signed by ASUU President Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke and addressed to all branch chairpersons and zone coordinators, the union emphasised the importance of solidarity. Osodeke stated that the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) declared the strike in response to the government’s failure to renegotiate the minimum wage for Nigerian workers and to reverse the electricity tariff hike. As an affiliate member of the NLC, ASUU branches are urged to join the strike.
