BREAKING; Best University in Nigeria for 2024 emerges [see current list]

The Times Higher Education (THE) has named Covenant University (CU), a private institution in Nigeria, as the top university in the country according to the 2024 Rankings.

This prestigious annual ranking evaluates universities globally.

Following Covenant University, the top five Nigerian universities include the University of Ibadan in second place, the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) in third, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) in fourth, and Bayero University, Kano, in fifth.

For the 2024 edition, THE assessed 1,907 universities from 108 countries and regions using 18 performance indicators. These indicators evaluate institutions on various criteria, including teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook.

The ranking process involved analyzing over 134 million citations from 16.5 million research publications, alongside survey responses from 68,402 scholars worldwide. Additionally, 411,789 data points were gathered from 2,673 institutions that submitted data for evaluation.

On the international stage, the University of Oxford in the UK has maintained its top position for the ninth consecutive year, marking the longest tenure in THE Rankings history. It surpassed Harvard University, which previously held the lead for eight years before ending in 2011. Stanford University (US) moved up to second place, while Harvard dropped to fourth. The University of Cambridge (UK) fell to fifth place in 2024 after sharing third place with Harvard in 2023.
