Bobrisky entered a guilty plea to the first four counts, which involved Naira abuse, as soon as the charge was read.
However, Suleiman Suleiman, the EFCC’s attorney, requested that charges five and six—which dealt with accusations of money laundering—be struck out of the case before the indictment was read.
Counts five and six were then stricken out by Justice Abimbola Awogboro.
This made it possible for Bobrisky to be arraigned on counts one through four, which deal with the misuse of naira.
Bobrisky said, “Yes, I am guilty,” when asked if he understood the charge after the counts were read to him.
If convicted for money laundering, Bobrisky might be imprisoned for a term of not less than four years but not more than fourteen years or a fine not less than five times the value of the proceeds of the crime or both.
For naira abuse, this is technically an offence as the notes then fall to the ground where they can be trodden on.
The maximum punishment is six months in jail however prosecutions are rare.
