BREAKING; FG obeys court order suspends Fed Allocation payment to Rivers over Wike/Fubara feud
The Federak Government has officially confirmed the suspension of the October Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) revenue payment to Rivers State due to the ongoing conflict between the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Governor Simi Fubara.
Bawa Mokwa, spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), disclosed the decision in an exclusive interview with Daily Post on Friday.
This comes after the government announced on Wednesday the approval of N1.1411 trillion for the October 2024 FAAC revenue disbursement to federal, state, and local governments.
However, reports surfaced that Rivers State was excluded from the disbursement following a court order halting the Central Bank of Nigeria and the federal government from proceeding with the payment.
In response, Mokwa emphasised that the OAGF, as a government body, is committed to adhering to the court’s ruling. He also noted that, as of the time of reporting, the October FAAC funds had not been distributed to any states.
“What I got is that the October 2024 FAAC has not been distributed yet. However, the Federal Government will obey the court order on the matter of Rivers State allocation.
“We are going to follow due diligence as long as there is no contrary order. In case there is a contrary, the status will remain.
“The process of disbursement of the October 2024 monthly allocation is going,” he said.
On October 30, 2024, Justice Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court issued an order preventing the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the federal government from disbursing monthly allocations to the Rivers State government.
This ruling followed a lawsuit filed by the factional Rivers State Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule.
The case centered on the Rivers State Executive, led by Governor Simi Fubara, failing to comply with a previous court directive to re-present the 2024 appropriation bill to the Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The Amaewhule faction, which has the backing of former Governor Nyesom Wike, has been engaged in an ongoing political struggle with Fubara.
