BREAKING: Imo’s Wild West – Gunmen Turn Owerri into a Chaos Carnival!
Pandemonium erupted in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, as sporadic gunfire spread across the city. According to a post by Eons Intelligence on X, the violence was attributed to unknown gunmen.
The post stated: “At 11:30 AM today, July 31, 2024, Owerri Prison came under attack by unknown gunmen, resulting in a gun duel with the prison’s armed squad. Reinforcements from the military and other security forces are underway.” It also reported attacks on a UBA bank on Wetheral Road and advised residents to avoid the area until normalcy is restored.
Witnesses in Owerri suggested the shooting was widespread, occurring simultaneously on Okigwe Road, World Bank, Control, in front of the Government House, Onitsha Road, Amaku-Ohia – Akwaku Road, Aba Road, and Wetheral Road. Some sources speculated that the state government, led by Governor Hope Uzodimma, orchestrated the shooting to intimidate potential participants in the nationwide ‘Day of Rage’ protests against hunger and misgovernance planned for tomorrow.
