Burna Boy’s Gift Changed My Life Forever” – Bethel Okechukwu
In an emotional interview with Lucky Udu, Bethel Okechukwu, Cubana Chief priest cousin , expressed his deepest gratitude to Burna Boy for gifting him $30,000 (₦50 million). Bethel described Burna Boy as “Africa’s Giant” and “the most humble musician in Nigeria,” praising him not just for his generosity but for his kind heart and humility.
Life-Changing Blessing
Bethel revealed that the money Burna Boy gave him is not just a financial blessing but a foundation for a new life. “Yes, I know I’m talented as a musician, but this money is not for making music,” he said, firmly. Instead, Bethel has chosen a path that prioritizes financial stability and long-term growth.
He disclosed plans to invest the money into opening a phone and accessories business at Alaba International Market’s renowned A-Line. “I’ve started looking for a shop, and once I get it, I’ll begin importing phones and accessories from China. I already have some experience because of my background as a phone repairer,” he explained.
A Quick Escape
Bethel shared how his life changed overnight after receiving the money. Out of fear for his safety, he couldn’t sleep in his former home. “The day I got the money, I went straight to my in-law’s house. Even he was scared, saying armed robbers might come for me. The next day, I moved to a well-secured hotel,” he said.
He worked swiftly, converting part of the money into naira through a trusted bureau de change and depositing it into his account. Within two days, Bethel found a small one-bedroom apartment and moved in with his old belongings. “I didn’t want to touch the money recklessly. Even to buy new clothes, I held back. I want to stand firm and make Burna Boy proud,” he said, adding that he promised to show Burna Boy his shop once it’s up and running.
On Music and Patience
Bethel clarified that the songs now trending under his name are not new but old recordings from his past. Although many have urged him to go fully into music, he remains cautious. “I can’t gamble with my future. Maybe I’ll return to music later, but for now, I need to focus on building a solid foundation.”
Bethel emphasized that his focus is on creating stability for himself, saying, “I want to stand first before I think about anything else.”
Addressing Cubana Chief Priest
Bethel also used the opportunity to address his relationship with his cousin, Cubana Chief Priest. He dismissed rumours of any grudge, stating, “He owes me nothing. I’ve never asked him for money, only for connections or opportunities to perform at shows.”
He admitted to calling out Cubana Chief Priest during his interview with Lucky Udu but clarified his intentions. “I didn’t mean to paint him in a bad light. I only did it to get his attention because every other attempt failed. If I went too far, I’m truly sorry,” he said.
Bethel expressed gratitude for Cubana Chief Priest’s role in his journey and revealed that Burna Boy has repeatedly advised him to respect his elder brother. “I am where I am today partly because of him, and I’ll always be grateful.”
A New Beginning
Bethel Okechukwu’s story is one of gratitude, humility, and determination. Despite the fame and attention, he has chosen to prioritize his future by investing wisely and staying grounded unlike some people, who will like to become celebrity over night.
