Greek owner C3is has struck a deal to acquire a handysize bulk carrier from Vafias dry arm Brave Maritime.
The Nasdaq-listed Harry Vafias-backed spin-off of Imperial Petroleum is paying $16.9m for the 2012 Japanese-built Eco Spitfire, in a deal approved by the company’s independent directors.
The 33,664 dwt unit is currently trading under a time charter, scheduled to expire at the beginning of May 2024.
C3is was founded last year as a bulker pure-play, only to shortly thereafter expand into tankers.
The company listed on Nasdaq last June and recently pulled off a reverse stock split to maintain its stock trading in the US.
Following the Eco Spitfire buy, C3is will have three handy bulkers in its fleet accompanied by one aframax tanker.
