General Christopher Musa, Chief of Defense Staff, has announced a cash reward of N1 million for the troops who participated in a significant operation in Zamfara State, where bandits have caused severe disruptions.

Earlier reports revealed that a notorious bandit, known as Kachalla Buzu or Halilu Sububu, was killed during the operation in Zamfara. Before his death, Sububu—described by counter-insurgency expert ZagaZola Makama as the leader of Bello Turji, another wanted criminal—had called for intensified attacks against the military. In his address to the troops on Friday, General Musa stated: “Who are the troops involved in the operation? I am awarding you N1 million to share among yourselves as a token of our appreciation. Understand?”

Sububu, originally from Niger Republic, was based in a forest in Zamfara State but frequently fled to Niger Republic after his criminal activities in Nigeria. He was also reported to own a lucrative illegal gold mining site in Bagega and other areas near Sumke forest in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara. He maintained a camp on the western side of Bagega and exerted control over the local communities and mining sites.
