Cesc Fabregas reveals the difference between Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger as Chelsea tactic shared

Former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has claimed Jose Mourinho was the one manager during his career who ‘played with his mind’. Fabregas joined the Blues in 2014 from Barcelona and helped the club win the Premier League title during his debut campaign at the club, which was Mourinho’s final full season at Stamford Bridge.

The Spanish midfielder played an integral part in the team’s success in the 2014/15 season, providing 18 assists in 34 league games to help unlock opposition on a consistent basis. Fortunate enough to also work with the likes of Arsene Wenger and Pep Guardiola during his esteemed career, Fabregas still maintains Mourinho was the one manager who brought the best out of him in a way no one before had managed.

“I think with Mourinho, he played with my mind in a different way that nobody else played before,” he told The Coaches’ Voice. “He gave me also another type of trust because unconsciously I know Arsene, for example, that I really had a lot of trust with as well. I was like his son, he took me when I was 16 and he made me improve slowly, slowly, until I was a man.

“With Mou, it was a little bit more in terms of the feeling personally and how we speak every day. He would send me messages, he would speak to me nearly every day and he would speak to me in a manner where he makes me see that I’m one of the most important players in the squad and that always had a really powerful message in my brain and that’s why I played such good football under him.”

Fabregas also revealed four years ago the message delivered to him by the Portuguese coach as he attempted to convince him to complete a move to Chelsea.

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s FIVE YouTube channel. he said: “One day, when I first met him he told me ‘I need two players, I’m going to sign Diego Costa. If you come to me…’, he drew me the team on paper and said ‘this team is winning the title’.

“The first day I met him he said ‘I only need two players: Diego, who is basically signed’ and then Thibaut Courtois was coming but if not it was Petr Cech. It’s basically the same. But he said: ‘you come, we will win the title’.”
