Chelsea latest injury news as [7] seven key players set to miss Man United with Malo Gusto update
Mauricio Pochettino will continue to be without a number of players on Thursday night when his Chelsea team take on Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues boss has suffered with bad luck in the treatment room throughout his first season in charge. Long-term injuries and a long list of knocks have stopped Pochettino from having consistency in his starting line-up.
Ahead of Thursday’s home game with Man United, Chelsea could have 11 first-team players unavailable. Wesley Fofana, Reece James, Romeo Lavia, Christopher Nkunku, Lesley Ugochukwu and Levi Colwill are all missing due to long-term problems.
In Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Burnley, Malo Gusto was forced off in the latter stages to spark a fresh injury concern. Fortunately, the club’s injury update released on Wednesday claimed the France Under-21 international is in ‘team training’.
Pochettino confirmed in his pre-match press conference that he will be in the squad on Thursday. “Trevoh [Chalobah] and Malo trained with us and they will be ready to be in the squad,” he said.
Ben Chilwell missed the draw with Burnley after picking up a slight knock while away with England. However, the club have confirmed he is currently ‘absent due to illness’.
“We didn’t see Chilly from Friday because the doctor and the medical staff removed from his knee a lot of fluid after coming back from the national team,” Pochettino explained. “Saturday, he got ill and wasn’t [in] Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. He is at home trying to recover.”
Carney Chukwuemeka, Robert Sanchez and Robert Sanchez also all missed the Burnley game. However, the club’s injury update released on Wednesday afternoon claimed they had all returned to team training.
