Chidimma Onwe Adetshina Withdraws from Miss South Africa 2024 Pageant After Citizenship Controversy
Miss South Africa 2024 contestant, Chidimma, has withdrawn from the competition following a controversy surrounding her citizenship. This decision comes after the South Africa Home Office suggested that her mother might have committed fraud and identity theft during Chidimma’s birth registration.
Chidimma faced questions about her eligibility to compete due to doubts about her citizenship, prompting the pageant organizers to request an investigation by the Home Office. In response to the situation, Chidimma announced her withdrawal on Instagram, citing the safety and wellbeing of her family as the primary reasons for her decision.
The South African Department of Home Affairs has released preliminary findings suggesting possible fraud by Chidimma’s mother, though Chidimma herself is not implicated in any wrongdoing, as she was a child at the time. The investigation is ongoing, and the Department intends to press criminal charges if necessary.
Despite her withdrawal, Chidimma expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the Miss South Africa pageant, describing it as an amazing journey. The grand finale of the pageant is set to take place on Saturday, 10 August 2024, in Pretoria, where the winner will represent South Africa in the Miss Universe 2024 pageant in Mexico.
