English professional football player Cole Palmer plays as an attacking midfielder or winger for Chelsea in the Premier League and for the country of England.

Early Life

On May 6, 2002, Cole Jermaine Palmer was born in Wythenshawe, Manchester. He has a sibling and was raised by his mother, a dyslexia examiner, and father, a dental engineer. He grew up with two older sisters. His family’s diverse background adds depth to his origin.

His great-grandparents were Windrush generation members, and his grandfather left Saint Kitts & Nevis in 1960.

Palmer holds English nationality and has a mixed ethnic background. His heritage combines white British and African roots. Through his father and grandfather, Palmer has Kittitian ancestry.

Education and Club Career

Cole Palmer finished his secondary education at Manchester, England’s St Bede’s College.

Palmer was a gifted football player who balanced his academic studies with his love of the game while attending St. Bede’s. He was also an outstanding student.

Palmer concentrated on his football career after finishing his GCSEs, and at the age of sixteen, he joined the Manchester City Academy.

After rising through the ranks, he finally agreed to a professional deal with the team in 2020.

On September 1, 2023, Cole Palmer sealed a big deal with Chelsea Football Club, starting a new phase of his professional career.

He piqued the eye of elite teams, including Chelsea, after making an impression in Manchester City’s development system and breaking into the starting lineup.

After receiving a sizable offer from the Blues to join them, Palmer accepted a long-term contract for £40 million, pledging his allegiance to Chelsea for five years.

Palmer became one of the highest-paid young players in the Premier League as a result of the agreement, which included a sizable pay raise.

International Career

Cole Palmer represented the England national under-17 team at the 2019 UEFA European Under-17 Championship. On 27 August 2021, he received his first call-up for the England under-21s, scoring a goal on his debut in a 2–0 win over Kosovo during the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualification. He was later included in the England squad for the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, starting in the final as the Young Lions clinched the title.

 

On 13 November 2023, Palmer earned his first call-up to the senior England national team ahead of their UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying matches against Malta and North Macedonia. He made his debut on 17 November, coming on as a 61st-minute substitute in England’s 2–0 victory against Malta at Wembley Stadium.

In May 2024, Palmer was named in the 33-man preliminary squad for UEFA Euro 2024. He made his first England start and scored his first senior international goal in a pre-tournament friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina on 3 June. Three days later, he was included in Gareth Southgate’s final 26-man squad for the tournament.

Palmer made his tournament debut as a substitute in England’s final Group C match against Slovenia on 25 June. Five days later, he replaced Kieran Trippier in the 66th minute of England’s 2–1 extra-time win over Slovakia in the round of 16.

Palmer continued to make an impact, appearing as a 78th-minute substitute in the quarter-final against Switzerland and scoring the first kick in England’s 5–3 penalty shootout win. On 10 July, he came off the bench with Ollie Watkins in the 81st minute, assisting Watkins’ winning goal in the 90th minute of the semi-final against the Netherlands, which sent England to their second consecutive Euros final and their first ever final on foreign soil.

Four days later, on 14 July, Palmer came off the bench in the 70th minute of the final against Spain and scored England’s equalizer from outside the box just three minutes later. However, Spain went on to win the match 2–1.
