Confusion as Appeal Court reportedly annul MC Oluomo’s election as President of NURTW

The Southwest Coordinator of the Elders’ Forum of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Moshood Ajao, has clarified that the Court of Appeal did not annul the election of Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya (also known as MC Oluomo) as the union’s national president.

In a statement, Ajao explained that Akinsanya was elected during the Zonal Delegates Conference held in Osogbo on November 9, 2024, and he was not involved in any legal proceedings.

Ajao emphasised that Akinsanya neither filed an appeal nor participated in the appeal that the court found to be without merit.

The Appeal Court’s ruling was issued in Abuja on November 8, 2024, a day before the conference in Osogbo took place. Ajao noted that neither Akinsanya nor any delegates at the conference were aware of the court’s judgment at the time the election was held.

Furthermore, Ajao clarified that Akinsanya was neither a complainant nor a respondent in the case. He highlighted that Akinsanya’s election as NURTW president was part of an effort to restore peace within the union, given that he was not involved in any ongoing litigation or leadership disputes within the organization.
