Tragedy struck on Saturday morning along the Sango Ota – Abeokuta Expressway as a yet-to-be identified member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), serving in Ogun state, lost his life in a lone accident.

The identity of the Corps member involved in the accident, which occurred at approximately 6:55 am along the Ago Adura axis of Itori town within Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state, was solely identified with the NYSC cap found in the vehicle.

The deceased, driving an ash-coloured Mercedes Benz saloon car with the license plate JJJ 168 JF, was deployed to D.S. Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ogun State-owned Traffic Compliance and Enforcement agency (TRACE), confirmed the accident and attributed the cause to excessive speeding and lack of concentration on the part of the deceased. The crash occurred a few meters away from the school gate where the corps member was serving.

An eyewitness reported that the deceased corp member dozed off while behind the wheels, leading to losing control resulting in the car somersaulting before crashing from inward Abeokuta to the outward lane.

Akinbiyi, however, disclosed that it was a collaborative effort of the TRACE officials and members of the community where the crash occurred to evacuate the corpse.
