Cubana Chief Priest’s Cousin Speaks Out: “I Never Asked Him for Money, Just Support for My Career”
Bethel Okechukwu, a cousin of Pascal Chibuike Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has opened up about their strained relationship. In an emotional statement, Bethel clarified that he has never asked Cubana Chief Priest for financial assistance but only sought his help to promote his music career.
According to Bethel, while they are not siblings from the same mother, their fathers are biological brothers, and they grew up together in Aba, Abia State. Despite this close family connection, Bethel revealed that Cubana Chief Priest has refused to use his influence to support his artistic endeavors.
“I have never asked my brother, Pascal Chibuike Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, for money. Yes, he is not my brother from the same mother, but my father is his father’s biological younger brother. We all grew up together in Aba,” Bethel stated.
Bethel, who works as a phone repairer in Lagos, highlighted his self-reliance, stating that he is not lazy and works hard to meet his daily needs. However, he lamented the lack of support from his influential cousin.
“I am not lazy; I love hustling in Lagos. I eat three times a day and solve my little problems. I am an artiste—I sing very well. My brother is well-connected, and I only begged him to help promote me or connect me with a manager, but he refused,” he explained.
Despite his disappointment, Bethel emphasized that he is not entitled to Cubana Chief Priest’s wealth and has never asked him for money. His only request has been for career opportunities.
“It is his money, and I have never asked him to give me money before. Imagine seeing your brother with all these connections, knowing you are talented, but he denies helping you. I only asked him to promote my songs or link me up with his big artiste friends,” Bethel added.
He concluded by addressing Nigerians, stating that he would not turn down help from Burna Boy simply because of the misunderstanding between him and his brother, Cubana Chief Priest, who refused to help him. He also asked Nigerians to thank Odogwu Burna Boy on his behalf, as God has used him to lift him and his family out of poverty.
Moral Lesson: In African culture, the term brother often extends beyond siblings from the same parents to include close relatives.
