Customs officer lynched in Katsina for shooting passenger

In a tragic turn of events along the Katsina-Dankama road in Kaita Local Government Area of Katsina State, a customs officer met his untimely demise at the hands of enraged passengers.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday morning at Gamjin Makaho village, has sent shockwaves through the community.

According to eyewitness accounts, the unfortunate event unfolded when a truck, ferrying passengers to Dankama town, refused to halt despite signals from customs officials. In an attempt to assert control, one of the armed officers discharged his weapon, inadvertently injuring a passenger.

The driver eventually stopped the vehicle, leading to a confrontation between the passengers and the customs officers. The situation quickly escalated, resulting in the fatal lynching of the customs officer, whose identity remains undisclosed at the time of this report.

Tragically, another victim identified as Bashir Na-Buzuwa also succumbed to injuries sustained during the altercation. The loss of lives in such a manner is deeply regrettable and underscores the need for peaceful resolutions to conflicts.

The Customs Public Relations Officer in Katsina State, SC Tahir Balarabe, has assured the public that an official statement regarding the incident will be issued. Efforts are underway to address the aftermath of the tragic event and ensure justice for the victims.
