Deputy Commissioner Of Pølice Hàngs Self In Oyo

A Deputy Commissioner of Police assigned to the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department (FCIID), Gbolahan Olugbemi, reportedly died by suicide in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

According to report, that his body was found in his apartment with a noose around his neck.

However, a thorough investigation is pending to determine the exact cause of his death, initial indications suggest suicide, according to sources.

Olugbemi, who previously served as an aide to former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, had returned home for Easter and was alone at his residence on Petros Academy Street, Federal Low-Cost area.

He served as the Aide De Camp to Alao-Akala during the latter’s eleven-month tenure from 2006 to 2007.

The area around his residence has been cordoned off, and mourners have gathered to pay their respects to the deceased officer.

One of his neighbours said, “Sometimes, he came home with police security. In fact l saw him recently driving personally into his beautiful mansion.”

“It’s only him we see around. His family is not usually seen with him.”

The informant also revealed that the policeman had been struggling with depression for an extended period.

His proficient policing during the ENDSARS protests in 2020 led to him being proposed for recognition.

Prior to his passing, Olugbemi had fulfilled roles as a Divisional Police Officer in Ilupeju Area Commander in Ajah, and had served as Personal Assistant to two former Commissioners of Police in Lagos State.
