Djibril Cisse names Chelsea flop who is getting ‘better’ the more he’s criticised

Djibril Cisse has named the Chelsea flop who only seems to get ‘better’ the more he faces criticism.

The Blues have seen many players come through the door since Todd Boehly become co-owner in May 2022 and not all of their new signings have worked out.

There are still some stars from the Roman Abramovich era who are yet to be offloaded, too, with striker Romelu Lukaku currently out on loan at Roma.

Chelsea have been desperate to sell the Belgian since his failed second stint at Stamford Bridge but could not find a buyer this summer as he left on loan.

Lukaku has impressed at Roma, producing 10 goals across 26 Serie A games, while in the Europa League he has scored seven times in nine appearances.

Former Premier League forward Cisse has issued a defence of Lukaku as he told DH Net: ‘Very much so [I like him as a player].

‘He’s a great player who scores goals wherever he goes. He’s often been criticised but mentally he’s a strong guy. It seems that criticism makes him better and that’s very strong.’

Boehly is hoping to sell Lukaku to a team in the Saudi Pro League at the end of the season, according to reports.

Lukaku rejected a move to Saudi Arabia last summer but later appeared to change his stance and insisted that it could become one of the best leagues in the world.

The 30-year-old is loving life at Roma, but stopped short of saying he wanted to leave Chelsea permanently for the Italian club earlier this month.
