Edo’s Health Crisis Unmasked: Reject Obaseki’s Legacy of Deception and Say No to Asue Ighodalo’s Continuation
Immediate Press Release
According to Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah, recent revelations have uncovered the stark reality of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s failed health policies in Edo State. For eight long years, Obaseki has spun a web of false promises, betraying the trust of the very people who elected him.
One of the most glaring failures is his neglect of our hardworking health workers. These professionals, who are the backbone of our healthcare system, have been left underpaid and undervalued, despite Obaseki’s grand promises of improved healthcare for all.
The transformation of the Central Hospital in Benin City, now called the Edo Specialist Hospital, epitomizes Obaseki’s disregard for the common people. Originally built to world-class standards by the previous administration and inaugurated by former President Muhammadu Buhari, it once stood as a beacon of hope. However, under Obaseki’s leadership, it has become an exclusive facility for the elite. After years of closure, it reopened not as a haven for all Edo citizens, but as a symbol of the governor’s neglect of the average person.
Today, patients are segregated based on their financial status, forced to buy different categories of cards at varying prices—a cruel divide between the rich and the poor. What was once accessible healthcare has become an unattainable luxury for most Edo citizens. It’s now a “specialist” hospital in draining the poor of their last resources—a disgrace to its original mission.
The numerous community hospitals that Obaseki promised? They remain nothing but illusions. Not a single one has been built. His entire health sector agenda has been exposed as a grand scam—a mirage designed to deceive the public while the state’s funds are misappropriated.
And behind this web of deception is Asue Ighodalo, Obaseki’s so-called economic adviser and handpicked successor. Ighodalo has been the mastermind, orchestrating Obaseki’s disastrous decisions. Together, they have plunged Edo State into a health crisis where the rich benefit while the poor are abandoned. As the saying goes, “When the head is rotten, the whole body suffers.” Obaseki and Ighodalo are the rot that threatens to collapse Edo.
The people of Edo State deserve better than this toxic duo who have sold them out at every turn. To trust them with our future is like expecting a goat to guard a yam barn. We cannot afford to repeat the mistakes of the past eight years by endorsing another four years of lies and neglect.
Edo people, the signs are clear. Let us not be deceived by the same empty promises and smooth-talking politicians who have already shown their true colors. The time has come to say enough is enough. Let’s reject Asue Ighodalo and his master’s failed legacy. It’s time to steer Edo State back towards real progress and development.
Signed,
Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah
