End the Era of Godfatherism in Edo State: A Call to Reject Obaseki and His Ally, Asue Ighodal

As we approach the Edo State gubernatorial election on September 21st, 2024, it’s crucial to carefully consider the direction we want for our state. This election isn’t just about selecting a leader; it’s about rejecting the outdated and corrupt practices that have stunted our progress. We must put an end to the era of godfatherism, which has been perpetuated by Governor Obaseki. It’s also time to reject the undemocratic imposition of his godson, Asue Ighodalo, whose candidacy seems to be more about protecting business interests and covering up the failures of Obaseki’s administration.

Godfatherism stifles democracy and concentrates power in the hands of a few, leaving the voice of the people unheard. We need leaders who truly understand and respect our cultural heritage. A leader disconnected from their roots and unable to speak their native language cannot fully grasp the needs, desires, and aspirations of the people.
