#EndBadGovernance: Minors Accused Of Coup Plot Meet Vice-President – Green White Green

A group of minors who were recently charged for participating in the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests is meeting with Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, at the Presidential Villa.

This meeting comes after President Bola Tinubu ordered that all charges against these minors be dropped. The protests, held from August 1 to 10, were organized to address the country’s economic difficulties and received significant attention nationwide.

The minors were part of a larger group of 119 individuals initially charged with serious offenses, including treason and inciting military action. Their arraignment on November 1 faced strong public backlash and international concern, especially because it involved minors.

In response to the public outcry, the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, instructed the police to hand over the case files, and the federal government announced plans to discontinue the charges.

On November 5, the Federal High Court in Abuja officially dismissed the charges, resulting in the release of all 119 detainees. The case involved two groups: the first group had 76 protesters, including 32 minors, while the second group contained 43 individuals. During the court proceedings, M. D. Abubakar, the Director of Public Prosecutions at the Ministry of Justice, informed Justice Egwuatu that the federal government had decided to stop the prosecution..
