Ex-Kogi governor Yahaya Bello in Abuja, not on the run – Investigation

Story from Fa’izatu Aliyu DOMA

Following his departure from office last November, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the immediate past governor of Kogi state, has maintained a presence in Abuja.

Despite circulating speculations suggesting that he is evading the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), recent investigations have debunked such claims.

It has been confirmed that Yahaya Bello has been in Abuja, visiting the presidential villa on multiple occasions for meetings with the President.

Additionally, he recently traveled to Lagos to pay respects to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the Sallah celebration, indicating that he is not avoiding law enforcement.

Sources close to the former governor’s residence in Abuja have disclosed that he spent the Ramadan period hosting prayers and gatherings with friends, family, and former appointees at his home in Zone four.

He has been seen moving around freely without the protection of the current Governor, dispelling any notions of him hiding from authorities.

Furthermore, it has been clarified that EFCC has never issued a formal invitation to Yahaya Bello, dismissing the notion that he is involved in any illegal activities. The ongoing speculations have been attributed to political motives aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

Regarding the rumors of Yahaya Bello’s interest in becoming the APC chairman, sources close to him have dismissed the idea, citing his youth and current aspirations.

They emphasised that he sees such a position as more suitable for elder statesmen within the party, indicating that he is not currently considering retiring from active politics.
