Factional President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Denies Enugu Election and Claims He Is the Authentic President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
Chief Barrister Uche Okwukwu, the factional President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has disputed claims of an election being held in Enugu for the leadership of apex Igbo socio-cultural group. In an appearance on Arise Television yesterday, Okwukwu categorically denied knowledge of any election in Enugu, stating, “I do not know about any elections held in Enugu; it is not in line with our constitution.”
Okwukwu went on to clarify that the elections that brought previous leaders to power were held in states based on their respective turns. He cited the election of Nnia Nwodo, which took place in Enugu State due to it being Enugu’s turn, as well as the election that brought Professor George Obiozor to office, held in Imo State, in accordance with Imo’s turn. Elections in Awka and Asaba were similarly held when it was their respective turns, he added.
The factional leader further asserted that the legitimate Ohanaeze Ndígbo president election took place in Port Harcourt yesterday, where he emerged victorious. “I don’t know about any other election held inside the government house in Enugu state. It has never happened in Ohanaeze Ndígbo president election before,” Okwukwu declared.
